Letter To The Editor
The Assembly of God Church in Watford City, ND, is a church of vision. WCAG, as it’s commonly known, is led by senior pastor Sheldon McGorman and a church board. Previous but ongoing visions have been to impact every country in the world with the gospel by 2030 and to start satellite churches in small communities. They’re over halfway finished on the 2030 vision and so far, have started campuses in Fairview, MT, Belfield, ND, and Kenmare, ND, and a Spanish service at their main campus.
But for the year 2024, WCAG had another big vision; to send 100 church members, from across the campuses, on a short-term mission trip. This was a big ask of the church body and the staff, as they’d previously only been doing 1 mission trip a year. But as they unveiled the vision and the trips, the church got excited. Members signed up for trips, arranged their schedules, asked for time off, and started fund-raising.
The 15 missions were spread over the whole year and over the world and included various methods of service. They included the Bahamas, El Salvador, Texas, Mexico, Egypt, Alaska, Chicago, Estonia, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, Iowa, St. Kitts, Utah, Las Vegas, and Spain with projects ranging from leading a VBS, evangelism, construction, demolition, connection and prayer, and encouragement. Participants ranged from retirees to children and from County Commissioners to oilfield workers.
As each group returned from their trip, they were received with the gift of a jersey signifying which number of the 100 they had been. In August, the 100th jersey was given out and after the final trip in November, the total was 154 individuals who had fulfilled the vision. Countless lives had been changed, both in the mission field and in the hearts of those who had followed their calling. WCAG has a heart for missions and the Send 100 vision further ignited that passion. As they continue to step out in faith for the visions God gives them, they are excited to see what 2025 holds.
