On Dec. 19, at approximately 9:12 p.m., a sergeant with the McKenzie County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on US Highway 85 near Mile Marker 161 after noticing a white Ram pickup truck driving with no headlamps when required.
The driver was identified as Christopher Martin-Holmes, 26.
Local dispatch provided the MCSO Sergeant with information pertaining to Christopher Martin-Holmes, including that Martin-Holmes had a suspended driver's license, an active arrest warrant in North Dakota and an out-of-state arrest warrant for fleeing.
During a second contact with Martin-Holmes at the driver's side of the vehicle, Martin-Holmes accelerated away from the location of the traffic stop, resulting in a pursuit northbound on US Highway 85. Speeds were reported to reach 90 mph during the pursuit. A MCSO Deputy deployed a tire deflation device (spike strips) on US Highway 85 near Mile Marker 171. Martin-Holmes entered the ditch and became stuck.
Martin-Holmes fled from the vehicle on foot before aggressing towards members of the MCSO. Tasers were deployed, but were ineffective initially. Members of the MCSO went hands-on with Martin-Holmes in attempts to make an arrest. In the process, Martin-Holmes grabbed the top of a MCSO Deputy's department issued handgun, which was holstered.
Members of the MCSO controlled the hands of Martin-Holmes, however, Martin-Holmes was able to free one of his hands, grabbing at the Taser of a MCSO Deputy. Martin-Holmes was eventually handcuffed and placed under arrest.
Martin-Holmes will surely be placed on the Naughty List after this incident, and he now sits at the McKenzie County Correctional Facility with the following charges;
-Fleeing during the commission of a Felony. (C Felony)
-Reckless Endangerment- Extreme Indifference. (C Felony)
-Preventing arrest. (C Felony)
-Attempting to Disarm a Law Enforcement Officer. (C Felony)
-Assault on a Peace Officer. (C Felony)
-DUS. (B Misdemeanor)
-Warrant out of Williams County, North Dakota
Martin-Holmes is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
