The McKenzie County Community Foundation has been awarding local organizations grant money since 2017. This year's organization's that will receive grant money include: McKenzie County Ambulance
Service; McKenzie County Heritage Association; McKenzie County Nonprofit Network; Bakken Area Skills Center-Health Occupations Student Association; Alexander Public School District; Long X Arts Foundation; Bakken Oil Rush Ministry; Watford City Swim Team; McKenzie County Hockey Club; Watford City Park District; Hispanic Advocacy of North Dakota; Watford City Figure Skating Club; Horizon Assisted Living; Feed My Starving Children-Watford City MobilePack; Badlands Gymnastics Club; and Watford City Youth Basketball.
Funding came from the Foundation's endowment earnings and from ConocoPhillips, with the grant's disbursed total coming to $48,850. Funding is aimed towards projects for community betterment, and can be applied for annually at http://www.ndcf.net https://www.ndcf.net/mckenziecounty. The grant deadline is always in September. The McKenzie County Community Foundation is affiliated with the North Dakota Community Foundation; a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization. It is managed by local volunteers who work year-round to build the fund and make grant awards. The local committee is made up of Daniel Stenberg, Ty Skarda, Desiree Sorenson, Jan Dodge, Doug Rolfson, Marcia Hellandsaas, Sara Fitzpatrick and Teale Wold.
