The creation of The Roughrider Fund was approved by the voters of the city in 1998 to support the projects that enhance Watford City and make it a great place to live and visit. The one and a half cent city sales tax has supported many projects since then. Some of the most notable projects supported include the construction of the Wild West Water Park, McKenzie Health medical complex, and The Roughrider Center.

Community Enhancement Grant:
One of the funds’ favorite programs supported 38 local events and community programs in 2024, enhancing the livability and quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
The committee is preparing for the 2025 grant round and hopes to see even more events and community programming supported, to further enhance Watford City and the surrounding area. If you are an organization that has an event or programming for public benefit you are hosting in McKenzie County in 2025, the committee encourages you to apply today. The window for the 2025 Community Enhancement Grant opened Dec. 9, 2024 and officially closes on Jan. 13, 2025.
