Watford City has a full day of holiday excitement planned for its community this Nov. 29. The Parade of Lights will begin at 6:30 p.m., after the Watford City High School Student Council lights the community Christmas tree by Door 204 on Watford’s Main Street at 6:15 pm. The parade’s theme is “Christmas Around the World” and will start at the old Fairgrounds and head west on 4th Avenue, turn south on Main Street, and be followed by fireworks.
Bakken Oil Rush Ministries will be accepting donated items for their winter clothing drive during the tree lighting. So, remember to pack up any winter coats, bibs, boots, gloves, hats, scarves, jackets, and sweaters that you no longer need and help out the Watford City and surrounding communities. Continental Resources & TTK will have chili and soup at their Christmas for Kids booth next to Beaver Creek.
McKenzie County 4-H will offer their Spud Fest event at the tree lighting and parade, where 4-H members serve baked potatoes and all the delicious toppings to attendees. They will start at 4:30 p.m. in the Civic Center, and offer hot cocoa and coffee, along with delivery for large orders for groups or businesses. The Watford City Police Foundation will be handing out hot cocoa, and the Watford City Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their annual “Big Buck Contest” that evening as well, at the Vet’s Gym at City Hall. The gun raffle drawing will be at 8 p.m., and hunters are encouraged to bring in their racks to be scored ahead of the drawing. A rifle and scope will also be auctioned off and all proceeds donated to the Dustin Ceynar family.
Watford City businesses will be open with sales and special offers for both Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. The Watford City Chamber of Commerce will be doing 12 days of giveaways, gifting businesses and individuals Watford City Bucks to encourage local shopping.
