Janice Kay Kunda, 74, Sidney, MT

Janice Kay (Anderson) Kunda earned her heavenly wings on Oct. 15, 2024.

Janice was born on Jan. 25, 1950, to Daniel M and Vera E (Lamphier) Anderson, Sidney, MT. She was born the 3rd of 6 children; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. They grew up on the family farm in Brorson Community northwest of Sidney.

Janice attended Haycreek School and Brorson School and graduated from the 8th grade from Brorson School. She then continued her education at Sidney High School and graduated with the class of 1967.

After graduation, Janice completed a correspondence course to become a flight attendant. She finished her finals in Las Vegas, NV, but returned home and began her career as a Certified Nurse Assistant at Sidney Hospital.

Her daughter, Malissa Marie Hams, was born on Dec. 6, 1972. Janice continued to work as a caregiver as she raised her daughter.

Janice married Richard Kunda on Dec. 20, 1983. On Dec. 20, 1985, her son, Michael Richard Kunda, was born.

Janice raised her children with love and pride. She loved watching her son, Mike, play hockey and other sports and traveled many miles supporting him over the years. She also enjoyed watching her granddaughter, Hailie, grow up. They had many adventures together.

She loved animals and was especially fond of her dogs Pepper, Katie, and Joey. They brought her great joy. Some of her favorite hobbies were putting puzzles together, doing crosswords, and playing Bejeweled Blitz and Candy Crush on her iPad. She also enjoyed listening to her records on her record player. At Christmas, she got joy from decorating the Christmas tree and watching "The Grinch" cartoon.

Janice returned to her calling in healthcare as a CNA and in home health care until her retirement. Janice is remembered for her compassion and kindness by many in the Sidney area who were her patients.

Her health began to decline and she was moved to the Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home, Plentywood, MT, in 2021 where she was taken care of the way she took care of so many others throughout her life. Many people remarked about her beautiful smile when we would visit.

Janice is survived by her husband, Richard, Sidney, MT; daughter, Malissa (Vince) Stenson, Williston, ND; son, Michael (Kayler) Kunda, Sidney, MT; granddaughter, Hailie Larson, St. Petersburg, FL, and grandson, Easton Kunda, Sidney, MT. She is also survived by her brothers; Gary (Linda) Anderson, Miles City, MT; Duane (Linda) Anderson, Sidney, MT; and sisters; Patricia (Patrick) Micheletto, Savage, MT; and Debbie Kunda, Sidney, MT; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Vera Anderson, and her brother, David Anderson.
