Watford City Community Survey & Downtown Redevelopment Plan Results Available On Econdev.mckenzie.net Website

The City of Watford City Community Development Department has released the final results of a community survey and downtown redevelopment plan of three underutilized development areas within Watford City.

In March, 2024 the City of Watford City received a $50,000 Rural Facilities Planning Grant from the North Dakota Department of Commerce. The purpose of the grant, per the ND Department of Commerce website, “...is to provide funding to support the planning and development of empty or soon-to-be-empty facilities or buildings in rural areas (communities). The grant is aimed at improving the quality of life, services, and opportunities for residents in rural communities.”

From April-June, the city hosted an online community input survey, that over 800 community members participated. From July-September, consulting firm AE2S Communications processed that survey data, retail market leakage, held interviews with current property owners of the three participating redevelopment areas, overlaid building, planning, and zoning ordinances to the survey participant data, and provided public driven recommendations for those areas of Watford City.
