The 2024 Fairview Warrior football season got off to a bang on Thursday evening, Aug. 29. Literally, a bird flew into the lights and blew the transformer causing three banks of lights, the scoreboard, and the crow's nest to go dark. AD Thompson and Supt. Kloker got to work securing a portable scoreboard and a couple of mobile light banks so the game could go on.
The Warriors could not be stopped as they scored 34 points in the first quarter and another 21 points in the second quarter while not allowing Poplar to muster a single first down making the halftime score 55-0.
The second half allowed the JV squad to play valuable varsity minutes with a running clock. The final score was 63-26 Warriors.
Ryan Lustig in his first varsity start played an incredible game. He had 3 interceptions bringing one back for a touchdown, scored on a 71-yard reception, and a 50-yard kickoff return capping it off with the 2-point conversion.
Tyler Loan threw 3 touchdowns, caught one and ran in another while Wyatt McPherson ran for 2 touchdowns and threw the one to Loan.
Deacon Gackle led the team in receiving with 3 catches for 81 yards and a touchdown.
Troy Karst also caught a touchdown pass to round out the scoring.
Fairview plays at Forsyth on Friday.
