A Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 4, 2024 from 9:00 until 10:30 am at the Fulkerson Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Sidney, MT. Fred will be laid to rest in the Fairview Cemetery in East Fairview, ND. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 114, Fairview, MT and representatives from the US Navy Funeral Honors Team. Fredrick Raymond Miller, 81, a long-time resident of Columbia Falls and Fairview, Montana, passed away peacefully at the home of his son in West Haven, Utah, on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
Born October 5, 1942, in East Fairview, North Dakota, Fred was the son of William and Sarah Vanderhoof Miller. Raised and schooled in Fairview, Montana, he graduated from Fairview High School in 1960. As a young man, Fred enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1960 until 1964, when he was honorably discharged as an E5.
Fred married Bonnie in California, and they had two children and later divorced.
Fred later married Paula Kay Schneider, in Montana and they raised their family together.
He worked for many years as a journeyman pipe fitter and boilerman, retiring from Columbia Falls Aluminum Company in 2007.
Fred enjoyed spending time with family and friends, partying, hunting, fishing, camping, bowling and playing golf. He will be remembered for his strong, stern, no guff, caring, and witty personality.
Fred is survived by his sons, Raymond Miller, Sidney, Montana; Justin N. (Stacy) Miller, West Haven, Utah; Chad Miller and Anthony Miller, both of Montana; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert Ernster. He was preceded in death by his wife, Paula Miller; daughter, Michelle; son, David; parents, William and Sarah Miller; his siblings; Bill, Bud, Verna, Virgil, Rose, Mel, Ruby, Larry, Rolland and Alvin.
Friends may visit with family in Utah on Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah.
