On Tuesday, Aug. 13 the Maryland Chamber Foundation hosted the inaugural National Civics Bee.
Hosted in partnership with The Civic Trust, an initiative of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and in collaboration with Montana Chamber Foundation, the event brought together exceptional students from across Montana, who earned their spots in the statewide competition through their compelling essays on issues in their communities.
Aria T., a 7th grade student from Park County, emerged as the winner of the competition, earning the first-place trophy and a check for $1,000. Noah Fox, an 8th grade student from Culbertson Middle School, in Roosevelt County, was awarded second place, Kendal Poland, a 7th grade student from Culbertson Middle School in Roosevelt County secured the third-place position, and Aubrey Lee, a 7th grade student from Culbertson Middle School in Roosevelt County secured the third-place position. The top three students each earned a cash prize.
Esteemed guests and judges during the event included Nikki Geiszler, Montana World Affairs Council; Ambassador (ret.) Robert Loftis; and Kim Kucera, Montana Department of Labor and Industry.
Why is civics important to think about was asked of Aria T. and she responded, “It’s important to me because I want to help my community and make it as safe as possible.”
