Sidney Man Drowns At New Town Marina

Mountrail County Sheriff Corey Bristol has reported that on Thursday, July 18 at approximately 10:12 a.m., a 74-year-old Sidney man drowned at the New Town Marina, west of New Town. ND.

Bristol stated that the Mountrail County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call at 10:12 a.m. stating that a man was drowning near the boat ramp. Emergency responders from New Town and Mountrail County responded and it was determined that the man had jumped off the dock in an attempt to retrieve his boat that had floated away. In an attempt to swim to the boat, the man became distressed and went under water. The response turned into a recovery effort with numerous agencies assisting. The body was recovered at approximately 2 p.m. Numerous agencies were involved in the recovery and included: Mountrail County Sheriff’s Office, New Town Fire Department, New Town Ambulance Service, New Town Police Department, Three Affiliated Tribes Police Department, Williams County Sheriff’s Office. Three Affiliated Tribes Emergency Management Division, North Dakota Game and Fish Department and the management of the New Town Marina.

The victim is not being identified at this time pending the notification of next of kin.
