Wacey Hovde, an incoming junior at Sidney High School, punched his ticket to compete at the 2024 National High School Finals Rodeo, Rock Springs, WY, July 14-20.
The NHSFR is the world's largest rodeo with approximately 1500 contestants from the United States, Canada, Australia, Mexico and New Zealand. This prestigious event serves as a platform for high school athletes to showcase their skills, compete for national titles and over $375,000 in scholarship money while forging lifelong friendships. The top four contestants in each rodeo event earn a spot on their state's team to compete at the national level.
Wacey and his cutting horse "Walter" came into the state finals in Bowman, ND, in June sitting well in the overall standings. After the dust settled, they had maintained their position throughout tough rounds of competition to be the #3 man for the state of North Dakota in the boys cutting. Wacey says he is excited to learn from and enjoy this experience at the highest level that can be achieved in high school rodeo.
He is a member of the Watford City High School Rodeo Team, an 8-year member of Richland County 4-H, belongs to the Sidney FFA Chapter and enjoys working on his family's ranch. He is the son of J.J. and Tana Hovde.
