MonDak Heritage Center's Summer Community Event, "The Summer Bash & Bake Off", June 22

The MonDak Heritage Center is celebrating summer with a free event for the entire family called, "The Summer Bash and Bake Off" June 22 from 1-4 p.m.

This is going to be a fun-filled day with everything from fire trucks, to music & storytelling, to pie eating!

Starting off the day in the street in front of the MonDak Heritage Center, the Sidney Fire Department will showcase their skill and accuracy in a WaterBall war! The crowd will be able to cheer on local firefighters as crews from two trucks duke it out to see who can push a ball suspended overhead the farthest down the cable using only hose water. Think, tug-a-war but with water. Then, Sidney Fire, Richland County Sheriff's Office, Sidney Ambulance, and Sidney Police Department, will open the doors to their vehicles for community members to "Touch a Truck" and meet the amazing first responders of our community from 1-3 p.m.

Inside the MDHC, local baking enthusiasts can enter to win the "Best Baker in the MonDak". Bring a baked good (or two) and enter in the Bake Off. The five adult categories include: 1. Cookies & Bars, 2. Cakes & Cupcakes, 3. Pies, 4. Breads, and 5. Anything Goes! Youth 13 and under may enter into the Junior Baker category! A total of two entries per person will be allowed. All baked goods must be entered between Friday at 10 a.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. Judging will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. All baked goods will be judged and prizes will be awarded to the winner of each category and to an overall Grand Champion! So, get your recipes ready and let's see who will be crowned this year's "Best Baker in the MonDak" and win fabulous prizes from Mimi's!

Throughout the day, chat with Williston Artist Onesti Krieger about her amazing art work displayed in the MDHC's outer galleries and be sure to take part in the walk-in ceramics class. Come glaze a ceramics project for only $15! This walk-in class is perfect for all ages. Participants will choose a ceramic item from the wide selection of new summer-themed items and traditional favorites. Once the baked goods are judged, everyone will be able to purchase a sample of the delicious treats and buy raffle tickets to take home an entire winning dessert!

At 2 p.m., be ready to cheer on local celebrities and heroes in the Pie Eating Contest and get the kids entered into the Youth Pie Eating Contest! To conclude the event, author Ednor Therriault will shine a spotlight into interesting but not widely known subjects in every corner of Montana, bringing stories from one region to people of another. Through stories, images & even original songs, he will foster discussion about the differences we celebrate, but also the things we might be surprised to learn we have in common.

This event is FREE and open to the public. Doors open at 1 p.m. Come celebrate summer with art, culture, and heritage at the MonDak Heritage Center's Summer Bash & Bake Off on June 22!
