Edward Dennis Savelkoul, 80, peacefully passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Sidney Health Center, Sidney, MT with his children by his side.
Ed was born on Aug. 22, 1943, in Minot, ND, to Clarence and Mildred Savelkoul. He grew up in Kenmare and married Sandy Harris on May 16, 1964. They made their home in Kenmare until 1972 when they moved to Bowman, ND. After a few years in Bowman, they moved to their forever home Sidney, MT, in 1974.
Ed worked for Lower Yellowstone Rural Electric Cooperative, Sidney, MT, and retired after 42 years of work as a lineman. He enjoyed his bowling league and fishing trips with his children and friends. After retiring, Ed took up woodworking and created many custom pieces that currently adorn area homes. Ed and Sandy chased their children around the country as they migrated away from Montana, from Arizona to Alaska to visit and enjoy the kids and grandchildren. By the summer of 2011, all his children returned to reside in the local area, and he was once again able to sit in the garage or on the back deck and enjoy the entire family back at the family home for holidays and birthdays. He was especially fond of how the grown kids became little again on the 4th of July and spent many hours shaking his head and cleaning up the yard. Although we never heard it out loud, we are pretty sure there were some choice words expressed under his breath.
Ed and Sandy were blessed with three children, Julie, Scott, and Michael. Ed was a dedicated and loving family man. He was most proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandsons.
Ed is survived by his children: daughter Julie (Lonnie) Herman, Sidney, MT; son Scott (Robbie) Savelkoul, Culbertson, MT; and son Michael Savelkoul, Sidney, MT; his grandchildren Zachary Savelkoul, Isiah Savelkoul, Evan Herman, and Natalie Savelkoul; and his great-grandsons, Kyler and Aaron Savelkoul. Ed was also lucky enough to inherit another five grandchildren: Robin Herman, Chance Herman, Stephanie Savelkoul, Ashley Frenick, and Blake Frenick. He is also survived by his siblings Mary Seime, Carol and Dick Granbois, Kelvin and Shirley Schmitz, and Geri and Jake Jacobs.
Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandy Savelkoul; his parents Clarence Savelkoul and David and Mary Schmitz; and his grandson Isiac Savelkoul.
