The Richland County Health Department honored Rev. Dr. Tim Tharp and Wendy Wiltzen, APRN, FNP-C, with Friends of Public Health awards on May 13.
"They are two phenomenal individuals who give of their time and expertise for Richland County's health," health department administrator Brittney Petersen said at the presentation.
The Friend of Public Health Award is given by the Health Department to individuals or organizations in recognition of outstanding support of public health efforts in the community.
Tharp, who was nominated by Jessica Gilbert, is a strong advocate of behavioral health initiatives in the county. Tharp, who is the county superintendent of schools, has been integral in supporting and implementing school-based behavioral health programs like Character Strong and Hope Squad.
Wiltzen, who was nominated by Lesley Thiessen and Heather Nevins, has served as a provider for the Family Planning program for 20 years, and a source of referral for breast and cervical screening for more than 15 years.
As a provider at Sidney Health Center, Wiltzen is an advocate for her clients, and reaches out to all resources to make sure her patients receive the help they need.
Past winners of the award have included the Richland County commissioners, Kelly Johnson, the Janae Moore family, Blaine Rogers, Russell Glaeske and Robert Burnison.
