Legal Clinics Give Peace Of Mind

As we age, being prepared for all the things that can happen becomes more important than ever. For some, getting all of your affairs in order can be a daunting task. You know it should be done but often don’t know where to start or are concerned about the costs associated with it. Luckily, the Montana Legal Services Developer Program can help make it easier.

The program provides elder law training and resources for older Montanans, their family members and social outreach workers. It also develops pro bono and local legal services referrals, training materials and provides telephone assistance to older adults on related matters.

Each year, the Montana Aging Services Bureau strives to bring the program to a local level by hosting a number of Legal Documents Clinics around the state. This year, one of those clinics will be held in Richland County.

On June 13, a number of lawyers will be at the Richland County Commission on Aging to donate their time to help area seniors complete a number of important legal documents free of charge. The clinic is not designed to handle complex estates, large assets or trusts but can assist with a number of other useful documents. Types of documents that can be completed include:

• Transfer on Death Deed

• Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care

• Durable Power of Attorney for Financial

• Declaration of Living Will

• Declaration of Homestead

• Simple Will

• Indian Wills

This is a great service that is being provided to area residents and the Commission on Aging encourages you to take advantage of it. The Kelly Moorse Memorial Legal Document Clinic will be held at the Richland County Aging Services and Transit Center at 2190 W. Holly St., Sidney on Thursday, June 13.

The Clinic is by appointment only and space is limited. To make your appointment, please call the Legal Services Developer Program at 406-444-7787 or 1-800-332-2272; during the call you’ll be asked basic questions so you can be advised about what to bring with you to your appointment.
