While many younger adults might not be overly attracted to politics, Sidney's Morgan Thiel appears to be an exception to that rule.
"It's definitely important," Thiel said of those holding political office. "If you're not participating, it's running your life without your input."
Thiel, a 2013 Sidney High School graduate, is the lone filed candidate for the House District 30 representative seat. The Republican is the project coordinator at Thiel Brothers Roofing, Sidney, and she started becoming interested in government at a young age after experiencing the involvement of her parents.
Her education background features attending Sheridan College in Wyoming and Evangel University in Springfield, Mo.
Her work experience includes cleaning at Thiel Brothers Roofing when she was just in middle school and later working on roofing jobs during the summers of her college days.
Thiel serves on the Montana Roofing Association where she is currently the president. She is also the chair of the National Roofers Association.
Thiel, who is a member of the Richland County Republican Central Committee, remembers an important part of her education was serving as a page for then state senator Matt Rosendale when she was in high school.
"I wish more students would go there," Thiel said of the legislative session. "It was really eye opening."
Thiel recently attended a Republican event for new candidates in the state, where she gained a lot of information and made contacts.
She looks forward to serving eastern Montana. She mentioned that she will be a proponent for small business, agriculture and the oil industry.
"I will be a strong supporter of what our community needs," Thiel said.
