Long X Visitor & Art Center Prairie Rose Quilt Guild Show Now-May 3

Featuring Quilter, Entertainer & Cowgirl Poet Yvonne Hollenbeck April 13

The Prairie Rose Quilters Guild along with the Long X Arts Foundation are hosting the Prairie Rose Quilt Guild show at the Long X Visitor and Art Center, Watford City, from now until May 3.

Guests are welcome to come Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. to browse the collection of 58 quilts made by local, McKenzie County area quilters that are on display in the lower, mid and upper level of the Long X Visitor Center.

“It’s a great way to celebrate National Quilting Month,” said Jessica Newman, Long X Art Education, Outreach and Exhibit coordinator who has been working with members of the Prairie Rose Quilt Guild for over a year to put the show together. “The craftsmanship and variety in this show is incredible. The talent these quilters have shared is special and worth the visit.”

In addition to the gallery show, the Long X Arts Foundation is hosting an Open House and Quilting Presentation by award winning quilter, entertainer and cowgirl poet, Yvonne Hollenbeck of rural South Dakota on Saturday, April 13. The Open House is from noon to 4 p.m. with treats, refreshments and Yvonne’s presentation “Patchwork of the Prairie” is at 2 p.m. The event is free of charge.

Yvonne performs her original poetry throughout the United States, captivating audiences in her wake.  She is one of the most published cowgirl poets in the West and is not only a popular banquet and civic entertainer, but also co-writes songs with many western entertainers. Yvonne also writes articles about life in rural America in various publications throughout the West.

Yvonne’s poetry reflects everyday experiences that arise while sharing the range with her husband, Glen, and their neighbors on their three-generation family ranch. Mostly humorous in nature, her poems take a turn toward the serious side, especially the stories of her mother’s and grandmothers’ lives. From homesteading to the present, Yvonne often writes about women on the ranches of the Great Plains.

In addition to her presentations of cowboy poetry, Yvonne’s quilt program shows her collections of family quilts, spanning 140 years, including her own prize-winning creations.

Poetry about quilts and quilters is presented throughout the trunk show, which is enjoyed by men and women alike! And throughout the presentations, you will see power-point photos of the quilt makers, their homes, and items of interest to both programs.
