The Sidney High School Cheerleaders and the Eaglette Drill Team competed at Cheerfest in Lewistown, MT on Friday, March 15.
The drill team competed with their routine to "Thunderstruck". They took first place. Our drill team seniors competed with a routine to "Smooth Criminal" and took second place. Senior Tayten Bright also took first place in the tumble off.
"I am beyond proud of the accomplishments of this team! It was absolute perfection watching them compete!" said Drill Team head coach Weslie Zoanni.
The cheerleaders also came home with a first place in their division.
"One of our team goals we set last June for this year was to get the opportunity to compete at CheerFest 2024. The SHS Cheer team had not competed at this event since 2021. This is one of the events that most cheer athletes had looked forward to as they moved into high school, so we are incredibly grateful to bring that event back to our program!", said head cheerleading coach Alyssa Cadwalader (Coach "Cad").
The cheerleaders had a great time while bringing the energy, cleanliness, and precision it took to win first place in their division. Having 12 cheerleaders on the mat put them in the small group division for class A. Any cheer teams with 13 or more members compete in the large group division. "We were incredibly proud of our performance from the moment we stepped off the mat. You could see it in the girls' faces! I told the girls before they started to leave everything on the "mat". They truly did just that!" said Cadwalader.
Cadwalader continued: "As a coach, I am just so proud of all the obstacles we overcame this year as a team, the relationships that were built, and the willingness the girls had to have extra practices, try new things, and adapt when needed. This program has a pretty stellar group. Our season starts in August and does not end until March. The dedication and commitment from this group over the last eight months, has been outstanding and it certainly paid off!"
