Lorena W. Hekkel, 97, Culbertson, MT, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024 at the Roosevelt Memorial Nursing Home,Culbertson, MT. Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home, Williston, ND is assisting the family. Condolences may be left on our Funeral Home website at http://www.fulkersons.com.

Lorena's funeral service was held on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 2 p.m. (MST) at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Culbertson, MT. Pastor Gretchen Wagner officiated. Visitation was held an hour prior to the service at the church. Burial was in Friedens Gemeinde Cemetery, Froid, MT.

Lorena Wilma was born on Aug. 4, 1926 to Dan and Ella (Krueger) Schledewitz near Froid, MT. She was baptized and confirmed a Lutheran and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Culbertson, MT. After graduation from Culbertson High School in 1944, she worked as a telephone operator until her marriage to John "Pete" Hekkel on Sept. 29, 1946. To this union, two children were born, Perry and Marcia.Lorena had one of the best smiles, a loving and caring personality, and a great sense of humor. She was happiest when surrounded by friends and family drinking coffee, visiting and playing cards. Some of her hobbies were German cooking and making homemade noodles, crocheting, playing Pinochle, watching Jeopardy and many more.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church's WELCA, American Legion Auxiliary, Homemaker's Club, Culbertson Museum, and served as church secretary for many years.

Lorena is survived by her sister, Ila Mae Mattingley, California; sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Pete; daughter, Marcia; son, Perry; her parents, her brothers, LaVern, Dave, Wilbert and Ray; and her sister, Lenora
