After about five weeks of hosting collection sites for "Gifts from the Heart", the financial advisors and employees of Edwards Jones offices across Sidney donated the goods that were donated to the offices on Friday, Dec. 8, the day before the event.
All four Edward Jones offices in Sidney offer their offices up as collection sites every year. According to Lana Watson, Jerry Hughes' office, "(They) put reminders in the Thanksgiving cards they send out to clients and the other offices mail out postcards inviting clients to donate to "Gifts from the Heart" at their offices." There is no pressure from corporate or demand from a district manager somewhere. Each individual office decided at some point to do this on their own. They have been doing it for over 20 years, so long, in fact, that no one knows who first decided to start donating to the event or why. Now, it is a tradition, and something they can do for the community.
Toys were not the only items the only items they accepted as donations. Nonperishable foods; clothing; and gift cards were also acceptable donations. The Edward Jones offices of Sidney are just a few of the businesses all around Sidney that host, donate, or help out in some other way to "Gifts from the Heart".
