Fairview Warriors had an incredible run at the Northern B Divisional Volleyball Tournament in Malta on Nov. 2. After winning sets one and two, they faced devastating losses to Choteau in sets three, four, and five of the opening round of the tournament. But the Warriors didn't let that get them down. Instead, they took the night to reset and regroup, returning the next day stronger than ever.
Coach Angie Hopes had the perfect words of encouragement for her team, saying, "Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes, the easy road is different from the right road."
Despite having the smallest roster in the tournament with just seven players, the Fairview Warriors played with the most grit, determination, and heart. On Friday, they won three loser-out matches in nine straight sets to stay alive and keep moving one step closer to their goal of playing in the state tournament.
On Saturday morning, Fairview and Choteau faced each other for the second time. It was a do-or-die situation; the loser would take third place and go home, while the winner would move on to the championship game and secure a spot at the state tournament. The tension was high as the two evenly matched teams battled it out in a five-set thriller. In the end, Fairview came out on top (18-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 15-13)!
The Warriors went on to face the number 1 team from Division 1B, the Fairfield Eagles, in the championship match. Although they fell short, losing in three sets, they played their hearts out and made their school proud.
The Warriors earned a well-deserved spot at the All-Class State Volleyball Tournament at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse at Montana State University. The Warriors are set to play the two-seed from the south, Broadwater, at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9. Get ready for some more exciting volleyball action!
