Glasgow - Glasgow High School hosted the District 2B Volleyball Tournament, Oct. 26-28. The Fairview Warriors entered the tournament in second place, displaying their dominance right from the start, defeating the Glasgow Scotties in four sets (25-16, 21-25, 25-21, and 26-24). In their second match, the Warriors faced the Wolf Point Wolves, who proved to be a tough competitor, but the Warriors emerged victorious in a nail-biting five-set match (23-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-23, and 15-19).
Fairview and Wolf Point would meet again in the Championship match. Set one was a closely contested affair, with neither team able to take an early lead. The scores were tied at 6, 10, and 11. Strong play at the net and Fairview errors allowed Wolf Point to take a slight advantage with a score of 11-15. Coach Angie Hopes called a timeout, and the Warriors returned with a beautiful assist from Kallee Hopes and a kill by Emily Johnson. Wolf Point answered back, taking the lead to 14-19. A kill from Macy Tjelde fired up the Warriors and took Johnson back to serve. Fairview rallied with a kill from Tjelde, aces by Johnson, and a block by Abby Berry and Kambre Kloker to earn a late-game lead of 23-20. Wolf Point errors gave the Warriors the win 25-23.
The Wolves came out strong offensively in set two, taking the early lead 3-6 and increasing that lead to 9-13. An assist from Kloker to Hopes and a block by Johnson fired up the Warriors, and they were able to tie the set 14-14. The set continued point for point, but the Warriors were able to close out the set, 25-21.
Wolf Point once again took an early lead in set three, 4-6, but Fairview answered back with five straight points, led by serves from Isabelle Fry, giving the Warriors the lead 9-6. The Wolves answered back with a kill but missed the serve. A kill from Tjelde increased the Fairview lead to 13-9, but the Wolf Point offense scored four in a row, tying the game 13-13. The score was tied at 14 and 17 before Wolf Point took the lead 17-18. Wolf Point won a long rally with a net violation by Fairview, making the score 17-19. Hopes answered with a tip kill, and points were exchanged until the score was 20-20. Fairview finished the game with a block by Berry, a kill by Tjelde, and aces by Johnson, earning the win for the set, match, and District 2B Championship.
