The Fairview Warrior football team hosted the previously #2 ranked Circle Wildcats who dropped to #9 after a two-point loss to Wibaux last week. Fairview fell behind early, the first time they have been behind this season, on a broken coverage long pass followed by a QB sneak from the 2-yard line. The Warriors responded immediately as Tyler Loan returned the ensuing kickoff 62 yards for a touchdown and then he kicked the extra point putting the Warriors up for good. Deacon Gackle intercepted a pass on Circle's next possession and Jeff Tjelde hit Wyatt McPherson for a quick 16-yard touchdown. Fairview's defense forced a punt on the next drive and after a nice drive Tjelde capped it off with another TD strike to McPherson from 4 yards out pushing the lead to 20-6. The Warriors special teams surprised everyone with an onside kick that they were able to recover. A quick 37-yard pass to Gackle put the ball on the two-yard line and Brock Schlothauer took a quick pitch into the end zone to make it 27-6 after one quarter. The second quarter was more of the same as Fairview's defense was stout all night and the offense was efficiently moving the ball and scoring points. Tjelde scored on a one-yard run and Loan scampered in from 47 yards out. Circle was driving late in the second quarter and trying to gain momentum going into half time, but McPherson stepped in front of a pass on the sideline and returned it to their 25-yard line with 5 seconds left. With time for one play, Tjelde dropped back to pass, the line provided plenty of time for McPherson to run a wheel route up the sideline, and they connected on a perfect pitch and catch bringing the half to a close 47-6 in favor of the Warriors. With the clock running in the second half, Tjelde hit Gackle for a 10-yard touchdown in the third. Circle scored on a 60-yard pass against the JV squad making the final score 54-14. Fairview plays the ranked Wibaux Longhorns on Saturday, Sept. 30 in Wibaux.
