Long X Arts Foundation Kicks Off 2023-24 Concert Series With Diverse Lineup Of Entertainment

The Long X Arts Foundation's Watford City Area Concert Series is excited to announce the lineup for the 2023-24 Concert Series, the fifth series for the organization that is committed to providing high quality entertainment at an affordable rate for members of the community. The Watford City Area Concert Series is a membership-based organization that brings in nationally acclaimed entertainers throughout the year.

Kicking off the Concert Series on Sept. 28 is the West Coast 11-piece "little big band", "Phat Cat Swinger".  This group specializes in high-energy music with that classic Hollywood touch. They have been featured on the stages of the Disneyland Resort presenting re-imagined Disney songs and originals in their iconic sound. This will be a fun group for the whole family and will launch the new season with a special 5 p.m. family supper benefiting the Watford City High School Theater program followed by a 6 p.m. show.

The concert series is once again teaming up with the Comedy Café, starring stand-up comedian Jaron Myers and local comic Amanda El-Dweek. Myers is a standup comedian who built an online fan base of over 1 million devoted followers, and his videos boast over 25 million views across the internet. Myers has two comedy specials on Amazon Prime, and his antics have been featured by Buzzfeed, Newsweek, College Humor, Relevant Magazine, and many more! Amanda El-Dweek will kick off the evening with her charming and relatable take on everyday life. El-Dweek is a syndicated cartoonist based in Watford City. She writes and draws a comic strip called "Amanda the Great" for GoComics.co and has made regular appearances at open mic nights in the community. The Comedy Café event serves as a fundraiser for Bakken Oil Rush Thrift Store, which provides one of the area's only thrift stores to help people who are struggling to provide basic needs for their families. Catch it on Oct. 20.

Later in the fall, on Nov. 16, award-winning piano entertainer Jason Lyle Black will take the stage with clever arrangements, fun stories and onstage charm that has won countless fans throughout the world. He plays easily sitting backward as forwards, performing music from Disney and Broadway classics, to songs from the Beatles, AC/CD and movie theme songs.

The new year brings "Divas 3" on Feb. 24, 2024.These three female singers have big powerhouse voices singing the hits of the greatest divas in music history. This vibrant show spans four decades covering the 1960s - 1990s with hits by Aretha Franklin, Carole King, Whitney Houston, Cher, Dolly Parton, Donna Summer and many more!

The 2023-24 Watford City Area Concert Series will wrap up on May 6, 2024 with a virtuosic trio led by world-renowned trumpeter Jens Lindemann, a former member of the famed Canadian Brass. Brassfire features the trumpet with piano and bass, while honoring the music of Louis Armstrong, Herb Alpert and Doc Severinsen.

"The public picked a diverse lineup this season and we're excited to be able to provide this kind of quality entertainment right here in our neighborhood," said Jessie Scofield, concert series committee president and Long X Arts Foundation Director.

The Watford City Area Concert Series is a membership driven organization, with individual memberships starting at $50. A 2023-24 membership grants access to five Watford City based concerts as well as reciprocity with concert series lineups in Williston, Dickinson, Crosby and Hazen. There are a variety of membership levels to choose from. All concerts and appearances take place at the Watford City High School Theater Auditorium at 7 p.m. with the exception of the kickoff concert on Sept. 28, which begins at 6 p.m. If you aren't interested in a membership, individual tickets will be sold for each concert for $30 for adults and $10 for youth, 5 and under are free.
