Catherine "Cathy" Blackwell, 71

Cathy was born in Idaho Falls to Emanual Jacob (EJ) and Eveyln J. (Wages) Frey on April 5, 1952. As the third of six children, she had a happy and lively childhood and remained in Idaho until moving to California during her late teens.

In Long Beach, she met her future husband, Alan Blackwell, while he was serving in the Navy. They wed in October 1969 and had two children, Felicia and Christopher. Although the two eventually ended their relationship, they remained in touch throughout their lives.

Cathy never lived a day where she didn't make a memory. She was definitely a people person; making friends wherever she went. She was known for expressing her good nature through her fun and vivid hair color. It was easy to see that Cathy enjoyed life and always cherished her time with her children and grandchildren. Some of her favorite memories are from a trip she took to Walt Disney World, Florida, with Felicia and Emilee and cheering Tyler on during his school sporting events.

Cathy loved being with her family and was always up for doing anything or going anywhere. No matter what Christopher and Tina invited her do she was up for it; whether it be a play, hockey game or dinner at a favorite restaurant. She enjoyed playing games and looked forward to seeing everyone in her immediate and extended families. She especially loved going camping with her children, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Cathy was an enthusiastic traveler. During retirement she seized the opportunity to take the trip of a lifetime. In 2021, she joined her sister, Jeanette, and brother-in-law in embarking on a 21-day European and Mediterranean cruise. During this trip she had the opportunity to visit multiple areas of Italy, Croatia, France, Spain, Puerto Rico and a number of others. It was definitely a trip to remember.

Cathy passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 9, 2023 surrounded by her children and loved ones. She will always be remembered for her easy smile, booming laugh and her love of life, family and fun. Cathy was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Cathy is survived by her children Felicia (TJ) Iversen, Sidney, MT, and Christopher (Tina) Blackwell, Bakersfield, CA. Grandchildren: Tyler and Emilee Iversen. Siblings: Yvonne Doss, Jeanette (Todd) Albright, Rodney (Barbara) Frey, Stephanie Frey, Kassandra (Jimmy) Frey, Rob (June) Willsey, Helene (Gil) Johnson, numerous nieces and nephews; she loved you all!

She was preceded in death by parents, EJ Frey and Evelyn Frey and brother, Frank Willsey.
