In answer to the inquiry, "where is the Sidney Senior Citizen Center?", we are at 811 3rd St. NE, right next door to M&S Builders, two blocks north of NAPA.
We meet for congregate meals two days a week: Tuesdays and Fridays. The general age group who attends range in age from 60+ to 90+. We have extended invitations to those we have not seen at the center and receive many excuses: "I'm not old enough (age 85); I'm too busy; I might have an appointment, etc., etc.".
On the other hand, many positive remarks are heard from those who are regulars. "Excellent food – in abundance! the price can't be beat (suggested donation is $5); great service – fast and courteous; you don't have to cook or cleanup; very friendly group; the fellowship is wonderful; you never leave hungry; we receive a cookie treat every time." Birthdays are celebrated each month with a special cake. We are privileged to be served a tasty and varied menu that is difficult when cooking for one or two. Keep these in mind the next time you want a great lunch. We give all the credit to Teresa Larson, and her assistant, Brielle Harrison.
The center is used each week by a group of card players and those who play Bunco. They pay a nominal fee of $2 each for the use of the building. The Senior Center is available for other uses as well, as it has a seating capacity for about 50 people. This would be by reservation only. Leave a call back number by calling the Commission on Aging or leaving a message at the Senior Center, 406-433-8077.
On a side note, there is a huge supply of reading material – lots of paperback books which you can read and return. We also have Senior Saturdays – usually in the fall and winter months. We invite musicians in the area to come for a jam session. All who attend can sing along, make requests and enjoy coffee and treats during the afternoon. We attempt to publicize these events a couple weeks in advance.
When you plan to join us for lunch, please call the Richland County Commission on Aging, 406-433-3701, at least a day ahead of time. See you at Seniors!
