Watford City's Food Truck Rodeo Rides Into Town For Second Go-Round, June 9-11

Watford City, ND - Last year’s inaugural Food Truck Rodeo brought many area and statewide food trucks to the Bakken for a weekend full of flavor. In its second year, promoters are eager to grow not only the culinary offerings, but the family fun options in and around the festival site. Something they say moving the event back one weekend to June 9-11, and joining forces with the Rough Rider Center will accomplish. “There’s so much more happening in conjunction with this year’s event,” says Mike Schmitz, event producer and owner of 701 Food Trucks. Attendance was over 3,500 in 2022. “We think that’s going to definitely be higher with all of the extra things going on,” he added.

What Foodie fans can expect: More food and non-food vendors, a cash bar, expanded inflatables area and a family-friendly Touch-A-Truck event on Friday (free) compliments of Watford City Police Foundation, a larger cornhole tournament, with more to be announced. Additionally, the Doug Johnsrud Memorial Baseball Tournament will run adjacent to the event Thursday-Sunday and is free admission all weekend. Returning this year will be the popular Food Truck competitions as well as everyone’s chance to vote for the “Best of The Fest-People’s Choice” award.

Rough Rider Center’s Event & Recreation Director, Joshua Nollmeyer, is looking forward to welcoming such a great event to the weekend’s activity calendar. “Nothing brings people together like food; we are excited to work with Mike and do our part to contribute to what will be a great weekend,” he stated. “Baseball and BBQ, not going to get much better than that.”

The Food Truck Rodeo will kick off 701 Food Truck’s season with 7-8 large scale events in about six different markets in North Dakota. Official event hours, list of vendors as well as other promotions and activities will be announced throughout the next two months.

The Rough Rider Center is located at: 2209 Wolves Den Parkway, Watford City. For more information, contact Mike Schmitz at 701-527-7868 or [email protected].
