TheZone Summer Lunch Program Starts June 12 In Fairview

All kids, kindergarten-high school are welcome to enjoy a safe space paired with a nutritious meal this summer, hosted by Zion Lutheran and Community Presbyterian Churches in cooperation with Fairview Schools. Lunches will be provided from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, alternating between the two churches. A red flag saying EAT will signal the location.

Pastor Tim O’Shields, Zion Lutheran Church, explained the program, saying that there are no walls involved. No income requirements, no religious affiliation. Just fellowship and good food for kids. It’s a way to get kids together with friends, or maybe make new ones, all while receiving a good, balanced meal. Stacey Skogas, West Side School lunchroom director and head chef, is advising the program to make sure the meals are well balanced, and, if the kids are lucky, she may even cook up a tasty dish or two herself! All other cooks are volunteers and more help is needed. Donations to cover the cost of food are also very much appreciated.

Flyers will be sent home with students from both Fairview schools the last week of school with a registration form. Parents or guardians are asked to please pre-register their kids so that quantities of food can be planned. Registration forms are also available at Zion Lutheran Church, or kids can be registered the first day of the program. Please contact Zion Lutheran Church at 406-742-5523 with any questions.

TheZone summer lunch program will run every week until school starts. Be sure to sign your child up for great food and fellowship this summer!
