Our dear Mother, Doris Aleen Redman of Sidney, went to be with her Lord April 20, 2023. She lived her final year of life in Billings, Montana in an assisted living home. Dementia claimed her final years and her family grieved that it was necessary to move her away from her beloved home near the Yellowstone River.
Doris was born in Lewistown, Montana on October 27, 1937 to Alvin E. Peterson and Ruth Eva Smail Peterson. The family lived in the Arrow Creek/Coffee Creek area on a small farm. Doris went to first grade in Lewistown and then her family moved to Bozeman, Montana and she went to second grade at the Monforton country school and third grade at the Ray country school both near Bozeman. The schools were so small then that Doris was the only kid in her grade for 4 years! From the eighth grade through high school, Doris went to Bozeman High School, graduating in 1955.
Doris attended Montana State University for 2 ½ years where she met and married her husband John Robert (Bob) Redman December 22, 1957. In January 1958 John and Doris went to Alaska to attend college in Anchorage, but they changed their minds and decided to come back to Montana to finish John's education at MSU. Kenneth John was born in 1958 in Bozeman. Kwin Aleen, Jamie Belinda, Lessie Ann and Lora Lee were born in Sidney, Montana. As a rancher's wife, Doris learned about cattle, gardening, horses and 4-H. She was a 4-H leader for over 30 years and was on the Montana 4-H Heritage Foundation. Doris was also one of the founding Cowbelles members. She was a member of the Lonsdale United Methodist Church in Sidney and served as a Sunday School teacher and as a church board member. Our Mom drove hundreds of miles to watch her children participate in sporting events, school plays, concerts and 4-H.
In our Mother's own words written to us in her final years, "Children and farming were my lifestyle and I loved both of them! From my family I learned love, faith and happiness. I had a wonderful life. A wonderful husband, delightful children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a strong faith in God. I am so happy that God sent me to Earth."
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, her brothers Lorrie and Eugene Peterson, and her sister Lorraine Gaugler.
She is survived by her brother Paul Peterson and sister Nancy Hasch, her children Ken (Holly) Redman, Kwin Redman, Jamie (Don) Wycoff, Lessie (Ashley) Sites and Lora (Kevin) Brown, grandchildren Sarah (Cody Drees) Tuck, Amy (Paul) Richter, Brian Redman, Sloane Tuck, Carl Redman, Devin Brown, Logan Sites, Kellen Brown, Morgan Sites and Makenna Brown, and great-grandchildren Gabriel Richter, Michael Richter, Malachi Richter and Abigail Richter.
