December is a busy time for the Boys & Girls Club in Sidney. Along with normal after-school and full day Friday activities for members, the Club also prepares for three large community events. Thanks to an outpouring of donations from many generous Richland County residents and businesses, Boys & Girls Club will be a distribution center for critical need items this Holiday season. The local organization started the month off with a Children’s Christmas event that aimed to help children provide gifts for their family members. The kids were able to get help “shopping” for the people on their list and enjoyed a family breakfast with Jolly Saint Nick himself! Free food boxes are set to be handed out at the Lonsdale Center Clubhouse on Dec.14 at noon. The boxes will include canned goods, meat, produce, toiletry items and more for local families in need. Each box will serve one household and they will be handed out on a first come, first served basis.
If you are looking for the perfect picture with Santa that can include the whole family, it will be coming up on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 1-5 p.m. The Annual Pet Photos with Santa fundraiser is held at Tractor Supply Company, Sidney. Along with pictures to purchase, there will also be frames decorated with style from Boys & Girls Club members and staff. The Club will also be selling raffle tickets for dog and cat themed gift baskets. All proceeds from this event will go towards funding after-school programming for members of the Club.
Giving Trees are set up at The Market, Reynolds Market, and Family Dollar. Each tree contains a list of supplies needed for programming, sanitation and other needs at the Club. Donations of these operational expenses helps the Club maintain low membership fees for families in our community.
