It's about time for a traditional Sidney Christmas Stroll and Parade of Lights. Friday, Nov. 25, is the date for the 23rd annual kick-off to the holiday season. The Sidney Chamber of Commerce in partnership with sponsors including Oneok, Kraken Resources, Dasinger Oil Properties, Cape Air, Thrivent, Johnson Hardware & Furniture and Reynolds Market invite the community to stay in town, shop local and enjoy the festivities.
The "early bird" shoppers will benefit from getting to the local stores between 6 a.m.-11 a.m. to find the Sidney Chamber "elves on shelves". There are six of these mischievous little elves in various sizes hidden around town. If you find one, turn it in to the stores register for instructions on how to redeem your prize. Prizes range in value from $20-$500. All prizes must be redeemed at the Holiday Soup Contest from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
A Holiday Soup Contest hosted by RestorX and sponsored by Mimi's Kitchen Co. will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the RestorX shop. Chef Amy McIntyre, Mimi's Kitchen Co., will be the judge. Contestants are invited to serve one type of soup for the soup contest. Contestants will only have access to one electric outlet and must have enough samples to serve 150. Samples sizes are 2 oz. All utensils and serve ware will be provided. Please register for the Soup Contest by calling the Sidney Chamber today, 406-433-1916. Prizes will be awarded.
Meanwhile right around the Soup Contest we'll have Cookie Decorating with Santa hosted by Big Sky Cookie Co. all along their street. This festivity is free for children and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on site for any pictures.
The Sidney Police Department in partnership with the Montana Special Olympics host the Polar Plunge also conveniently located right across the highway from the Soup Contest and Cookie Decorating at City Hall. The Police Officers gather contributions to support the Montana Special Olympics while also taking the plunge. The public can also sign up to jump in the ice water tank. Call the Sidney Chamber for more information or to register.
Starting at 1 p.m. there will be a showing of "The Grinch" at the Centre Movie Theatre. Santa will also be enjoying the show.
Free open skating courtesy of Dasinger Oil Properties will start at 3:30 p.m. and last until 5 p.m. at the Richland Ranger Hockey Arena.
Finally, the Parade of Lights will head north down Central Ave. at 6:30 p.m. Parade line-up starts at 5:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the best floats. Per tradition, the Cutting Edge Dance Sunrise City Rockettes will perform a Christmas routine to a Frank Sinatra remix in front of RestorX mid-way through the parade.
The Sidney Chamber of Commerce is grateful to all the consumers that shop local for the holiday season and every season. Sidney is home to over 50 retail shops and you really can find something for everyone on your gift list.
