The Perfect Space For Fun, Family & Friends

Kim and Reid South, Sidney had the typical, seldom used basement so they decided to remodel and make better use of the space. They definitely succeeded and turned their typical downstairs into an area that is now well used by lots of family and friends.

This now fun and functional area is open-concept, thanks to a support beam and showcases a living area with a custom fireplace and mantel, pool table, poker/pub table that is built from a whiskey barrel and replica guns and a full-service bar and entertainment space. This once dark and ordinary downstairs is now comfortable and cozy thanks to Kim's decorating ability. She expertly combined shades of brown and gray throughout, including the plank flooring, barnwood and stone accents, custom painted wall, Caraway colored hickory cabinets and quartz countertops. A light gray, plush sectional sofa provides lots of comfortable seating designed for easy conversations or for watching the huge television located above the fireplace.

Kim and Reid's favorite item in the basement is the fireplace. "It is a work of art...just so beautiful," said Kim "and I love that we can change the color of the flames!" She is also thrilled with the Cambria Quartz countertops with a chiseled edge and the custom painted doors.

The new doors were ordered as barnwood and while they were nice, they just weren't the look that Kim had in mind and the existing doors and trim were all golden oak. She finally decided to have them all custom painted to blend with her color scheme. "I just love the doors now!" Kim stated. "Now everything just flows together and looks great." Brenda Larson, Creative Solutions, stated, "It was such fun working with Kim and Reid! Kim has such a good eye for decorating and this basement remodel is truly magazine quality and yet completely livable. They did a superb job!"

It was important to the Souths to purchase as much as possible locally and to use local contractors as well. For their home improvement project they used the following: MacGrady Construction, general contractor, Sidney Paint and Glass supplied the flooring and blinds; the cabinets and quartz countertops came from Creative Solutions; Builders FirstSource supplied the building materials; Ryan Dempsey did the drywall and painting of the walls while Afton Ray-Rossol did the custom painted wall in the bar area and all of the doors and trim; ElectricLand Inc. supplied the electronics and color-changing lights; Gurney Electric did the wiring; Frontier supplied the heating and cooling and Agri-Industries did the plumbing.

"Everyone worked so hard to make this come together," Reid and Kim agreed. "We are so appreciative and love it all!"
