On Aug. 26, 2022 at about 6 a.m. CT, a silver 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab, driven by Errol Malone Jr, Minot, ND, was traveling west on 28th St NW in rural McKenzie County. Malone failed to negotiate a left curve and drove off the roadway to the right. The vehicle overturned in the north ditch, struck a fence, and came to rest in the ditch upright, facing east. Malone was ejected as the vehicle overturned. He was not wearing a seat belt. Malone was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
At the time of the crash the road conditions were dry on a gravel road with good summer driving conditions, the weather was mostly clear sky, 59º with 5 mph winds. The agencies who responded were North Dakota Highway Patrol, McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office, McKenzie County Ambulance Service and Watford City Fire Department. This crash is pending investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
