The Coy Hepper Memorial Invitational is set for Friday, Aug. 12 at the McKenzie County Fairgrounds, Watford City. The event will feature the area's top stock, top riders, and a Calcutta. The Calcutta starts at 5 p.m. CT followed by the rodeo at 6 p.m .; adult admission is $15 and admission for kids is $5.
The annual rodeo honors Coy Hepper, a competitive rider and a big part of the rodeo community from Keene who passed in 2021.
The top contestants from the NDJHRA and NDHSRA will compete in each event, along with top contestants from the PRCA Badlands Circuit. Award winning stock will be provided from Bailey Pro Rodeo-C'N Stars Bucking Bulls, Kling/Headings Rodeo, Wildman Rodeo Company, and Roger Sundsbak Bucking Bulls
The Watford City Cheerleading Booster Club will be selling breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks to raise funds for their Booster Club at the event.
There will also be several #livelikecov Memorial Scholarships awarded to cowboys and cowgirls at the rodeo. With the money raised at last year's event, the Hepper family was able to award 12, $1,000 scholarships. This year, they are hopeful that they will be able to award even more competitors with a scholarship. For more information on this event, call 701-842-6480.
