Since June, the third Tuesday of every month has been the date for the events. They go from 8:15 a.m.-9:15 a.m., and are at a different business each time, and with a different topic. The first one in June was held at Mimi's Kitchen and the topic was based on advice from veteran business owners. The second one in July was held at Bittersweet Hide Out & Coffee Shack and was about "Taking Over Existing Businesses". The third Community Power Hour will be held at Sidney Country Club and will be about "Front Door Facades", featuring Marci Lynn Sondeno, Marci Sondeno Lucky Design & Event Planner and Heidy MacGrady, B's Designs.
September's Community Power Hour has yet to be decided on, but the topic will be an "Update on the Housing Market" and the chamber is considering having a property manager, realtor, and mortgage lender speak.
The Chamber started these events as a support for local businesses. Many needs are met by these events like giving the public a chance to let business owners know what is needed, provide businesses with support, and a place for community calls to action. Larysa Hurst, a Sidney Area Chamber of Commerce director, modeled the Community Power Hours off of a national movement gaining steam called "Caffeinate Your Community."
The chamber is planning on continuing to do these events monthly throughout the year. Attendance has been growing at them and businesses have been reaching out requesting to present at them. Kali Godfrey Sidney Chamber director said, "We'd love to see people taking advantage of this opportunity."
