McKenzie County Heritage Park and North Dakota Oil Museum is proud to present their 4th Annual Dino Dig on Saturday, June 18, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Young paleontologists from birth to 2nd grade are invited for two fascinating hours of educational fun.
Attendees arrive to find a trail of footprints left by extinct prehistoric animals. They will have a chance to dig for dinosaur fossils, have a storytime, and do crafts focusing on the ice age. Kids will get to follow the trail of footprints in the pavilion learning about extinct animals.
The Dino Dig will take place behind the new Heritage Park building. Director Sandy Rieker is excited and looking forward to leading the kids on their expedition. She and her team of volunteers will divide the kids up according to their age groups and help them to explore. Whether they find anything or not all kids will get a grab bag with stickers, tattoos, and other goodies.
Rieker said they had an excellent turnout last year. She was only expecting a few kids but she ended up with about 75 turning up with their parents. Now, she is planning for 100. She said, "I'm not a professional, I'm just a grammy who loves kids. Maybe someday, one in a thousand of them will grow up, look back, and say when I was a kid I attended an event and found dinosaurs in a sandbox. Now, I want to be a paleontologist. I'm just planting seeds."
The event is free to the public and attendees are encouraged to bring their parents and a sack lunch. McKenzie County Heritage Park and North Dakota Oil Museum is located at 904 2nd Ave. SW, Watford City, across from the Watford Hotel.
