Watford City will be looking festive this year with tons of Christmas events happening throughout November and December.
Friday, Nov. 26 at 6:30 p.m., Watford City's Annual Parade of Lights will be lighting up the city. The parade goes from North on Main Street and East on 4th Avenue to the Fairgrounds to allow for social distancing. This year a panel of three judges is judging the floats and the prize will be a Traveling Trophy and $150 to the winners in two categories; overall outstanding entry presenting and illustrating the parade theme, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and overall outstanding entry presenting the best use of lights.
The Watford City Chamber of Commerce is also hosting its Light Up Watford City competition. The Chamber encourages community members to deck their home with lights, lawn ornaments, wreaths, and anything that showcases Christmas spirit. Cash prizes will be awarded to houses awarded as Chamber choice, classic Christmas, or Clark Griswold. Judging will take place Dec. 8.
Friday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., the Pioneer Museum of McKenzie County is celebrating an old-fashioned Christmas. The gift shop will have a variety of Christmas gift boxes, baskets, and items perfect for stocking stuffers and gifts. The Pioneer Museum sells products from local and North Dakota entrepreneurs.
Friday, Dec. 3 at 5 p.m., the Rough Rider Center will host a Jingle Bell Jog Holiday 5k run. There will be prizes awarded to first male and female finishers and best costume. There is a $30 registration fee for adults and $20 fee for youth; register at http://www.roughridercenter.com.
Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Roughrider Center, Johnson Corners Christian Academy will host their annual Soup Supper and Live Sweets Auction fundraiser. They will have a free will soup supper starting at 5 p.m., silent auction and the live auction will start at 6:30 p.m. The auction will have several homemade sweets/breads and five guns from Big Boy's Toys.
Saturday, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m., the Running Free Organization will host their Inaugural Santa Walk/Run at First International Bank & Trust. This will be a 5k and 1 mile run; cost is $30 for adults and $15 for children. Cookies and hot chocolate will be provided at the finish line. Register at http://www.RunReg.com/santa-run.
Tuesday, Dec. 14 from 4-6 p.m., Watford City Parks and Recreation is putting on a holiday baking event for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at Watford City Middle School FACS Room. Participants will learn the basics of kitchen safety, food preparation, and proper food handling. Each group will bake two to three recipes; there is a $20 fee to attend, register at http://www.watfordcityparks.com.
