The 17th annual “Erase your Ewaste” event gets underway in Sidney this coming Friday, Sept. 24 from 3-7 p.m. at the Richland County Public Shop next to the fairgrounds. MonDak area residents…not just Richland County…are encouraged to bring their obsolete or damaged electronic items for recycling in both Sidney and Fairview this weekend, according to Event Coordinator Heather Luinstra.
Sidney’s event begins Friday and then continues from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Sept. 25. Fairview’s event will be Saturday only from 10 a.m.-noon, at the water depot on 9th Street.
Yellowstone E-waste Solutions out of Billings is the e-cycler for the event and continues to offer their services for free The only exception is a $7 charge for removing a hard drive for those needing certificates of destruction or just wanting to hang on to them.
Large Loads
As in past years, local businesses, hospitals, school and other agencies and organizations with large amounts to e-cycle are asked to make an appointment by calling Luinstra at Richland County Health Department 406-433-2207 or emailing [email protected].
Unacceptable Items
No CRT (tube) televisions or monitors are being accepted and no projection TV units or consoles. Other limitations include no consumer white goods, vacuums, light bulbs, CFLs, mercury thermometers, alkaline batteries (rechargeable are okay), or items containing refrigerants (including dehumidifiers), oils, or acids.
The “E-rase your E-waste” effort has recycled more than half a million pounds of ewaste (255 tons) since its inception in 2005. The event is coordinated by members of the Richland County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), Richland County Disaster and Emergency Services, and Richland County Health Department. The Richland County Public Works Department also makes their facilities freely available for the collection event.
