Watford City's Fox Hills Golf Course now has 18 golf holes.
"The course has continued to grow over the years. It went from 9 holes a few years ago, to playing 12 holes last year, to this year, having 18 golf holes," said Aaron Pelton, Six Shooters LLC managing partner.
The course is owned by the City of Watford City with Six Shooters LLC overseeing the clubhouse operations and its bar and restaurant.
The course was originally built in 1930 as the "Watford City Golf Course." It was first built with sand greens, and then eventually became a grass greens course. The clubhouse has a patio that overlooks the course, along with views that stretch into the city. There are gaming machines for adults, corn hole, darts, TVs, and food that is unique to Watford City. It offers a variety of opportunities for its members including social events, golf tournaments, leagues, and other events throughout the year.
"We want to provide recreation to the community and offer a quality golf experience. We hope to bring in people from outside the area to enjoy the course, and experience what Watford City has to offer on a tourism level," added Pelton.
This year posed many challenges for the golf course. COVID-19 made operating the bar and restaurant side of things "very tricky". The lack of water and rain also made things tough for the grounds crew when building the new course. Pelton explained that it would take some time for the new course to mature and become healthy.
"We are meeting the challenges head-on, and the course has been as busy this year as ever. We have had many full tournaments already, men's and women's league memberships are way up, the Junior League has 59 kids signed up for it," added Pelton
