The Killdeer Saddle Club will host its annual Killdeer Mountain Roundup PRCA Rodeo July 3-4. This year marks the Killdeer Mountain Roundup's 98th anniversary in Killdeer.
Saturday, July 3, there will be a calcutta starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by the rodeo at 6:30 p.m. rodeo and a street dance on the rodeo grounds with the Mountain Country Band performing at 9 p.m.
Sunday, July 4, rodeo slack will start at 8 a.m .; the Dunn County Fair board will have their BBQ at High Plains Community Center around noon, followed by a parade at 3 p.m. and calcutta and rodeo at 6 p.m .; the show will conclude with fireworks display at 9 p.m.
This year's stock contractor will be J Bar J Rodeo Company out of Montana. Concessions and beer gardens will be provided both days and there will be vendors for food, clothing, and tack, along with the jumping castles for kids and a mechanical bull for those that want to try bull riding.
"This rodeo has been a part of Killdeer's history and heritage for the past 98 years and is synonymous with the 4th of July in Killdeer. Last year, our rodeo had around 800 contestants that participated in the three-day event with many of the top NFR competitors competing at our rodeo," said Stacy Steffan Killdeer Saddle Club treasurer.
Since 2019, the rodeo has undergone many changes. The Killdeer Saddle Club purchased land outside the city of Killdeer and built a new facility with two arenas, hillside seating, stall barn, and a community building. The new location is located about a mile west of Killdeer on the Hwy 22 Bypass truck route.
Tickets for the event will be $15 for adults, $5 for kids, and 6 years of age and younger are free - tickets can be purchased ahead of time online at http://www.killdeermountainrounduprodeo.com.
