WCCBA Donates To Local Nonprofits

For a number of years, the Long X Liquor Store, Watford City, has supported community groups. Since its inception, it has provided a total of approximately ¾ of $1,000,000 to nonprofits.

In 1950, a group of local businessmen had the goal of raising funds to pay off the local hospital. To do this, the men purchased a store and a liquor license, which turned into the Long X Liquor Store. Ever since the establishment of the business, the company has taken the profits and rolled those into other nonprofits to benefit Watford City.

For 2020, the recipients of those profits were Long X Arts Foundation, Bakken Oil Rush Ministries, and Angel's Wish TNR. These groups were voted on by the community last April via the Long X Liquor Store Facebook page.

"We asked for nominations and then from the top nominations we did the top five - these were the three that got voted on and they were literally neck and neck with each other. Typically, we just choose one nonprofit a year, but due to the numbers being so close, we just couldn't choose one," said LeAnn Brown, Long X Liquor Store general manager.

"Due to COVID-19, 2020 was a hard year. These nonprofits need financial help so they can continue to serve our community."

Brown explained that these groups have been instrumental in providing help to the community of Watford City.

The Long X Arts Foundation provides art-based events and projects for all ages. The group supports the North Dakota Council on Arts Mission in Western North Dakota, promotes local artists and entertainers, and develops programming and educational opportunities for the community.

Bakken Oil Rush Ministries serves the community with the intention of meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the community members by offering care, connection, and collaboration.

Angel's Wish is a "Trap-Neuter-Release" and rescue organization, which helps get lost and abandoned cats off the streets and into caring homes.

"We want to make sure that these organizations are here to stay in our community," added Brown.

The Long X Liquor Store is now accepting nominations for 2021 until Thursday, April 29. To submit a well-deserving nonprofit, visit the Long X Liquor Store Facebook page or visit http://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2021Giveaway.
