The North Dakota Petroleum Foundation and Lignite Energy Council sponsored two sessions April 14 for grades 7-9 and April 21 for grades 10-12 at the Roughrider Center and Watford City High School Auditorium, Watford City.

Jason Ehlert, State Building Trades Union president, representing workers in the commercial, industry and residential construction markets spoke on shifting traditional thinking and perceptions. He found a rewarding career in the construction industry by completing a registered apprenticeship program as a bricklayer. His hope is to inform young people about the unknown options after high school that are often overlooked as a rewarding career.
The McKenzie County Skills Initiative Petroleum Industry Advisory Group's goal is to make McKenzie County more attractive and marketable for business and residents by improving community access to workforce training, retention and recruitment, degree-seeking opportunities; business development; and community enrichment.
Community leaders included in the sessions were: Bismarck Public Schools, TEAM Construction Engineers, Inc., Northern Improvement, McKenzie Co. Emergency Management University of North Dakota, SW Manufacturing Group, General Equipment & Supplies, Inc., McKenzie Electric Cooperative, Inc., Insight RPV Services, Bismarck State College ( North Dakota's Polytechnic Institution), North Dakota Lignite Energy Council, Gooseneck Implement, North Dakota Department of Transportation, Lynnes Welding, International Brotherhood of Electric Workers, Silver Fox Pipeline and Facility Services/Trade Ready, Carpenters and Millwrights Local 1091 and Reservation Telephone Cooperative.
