Wildfire Rages In Theodore Roosevelt National Park's North Unit

Multiple agencies and fire response units from across the region have been battling a wildfire in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park's North Unit since Saturday. The Theodore Roosevelt National Park Facebook page posted the following statement on April 5:

On Saturday April 3, a fire ignited just outside the north boundary of the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Sunday, April 4, fire crews completed a successful back burn along US 85 and the park road in an attempt to contain the fire in the northeast section of the park.

The North Unit of the park remains closed to the public at this time. Fire crews from US Forest Service, National Park Service and local fire departments are currently fighting the fire and will be re-assessing as conditions change.

Fire restrictions are in place for all units of the park. Campfires and the use of non-propane camp stoves are not allowed at this time. Please use caution when visiting the park, as fire danger is very high.

McKenzie County issued a Fire Emergency and Burn Ban as of March 2 due to the extremely dry conditions in the area. Both McKenzie and Williams counties remain in a high fire danger rating.
