Last week, Roosevelt Medical Center proudly welcomed its' newest member to the medical team. Keri Foster, a family nurse practitioner, joined the staff as a mid-level provider who will work in collaboration with Dr. Helland and Zoe Fugere, FNP.
At the same time, staff at RMC said good-bye to Elizabeth Kleppen, a long-time physician's assistant, who recently resigned to be more involved in managing her family's farm.
"My fondest desire is to be integrated into the community and become a valuable part of it," Foster said. "I want to use my skills in a rural area because I prefer small-town life and recognize there is a great need for providers in rural and frontier areas," she added.
Foster will be providing well-child checkups and performing physicals and exams. She will also diagnose and treat common health problems such as infections and minor injuries, treat and monitor chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, order labs and x-rays, and provide medication prescriptions. She is also a licensed DOT examiner, and Wound Care Certified.
Originally from Nebraska, she grew up on a ranch in a small community and prefers small-town life to living in urban areas.
Earlier in her career, Foster served in the U.S. Army as an officer and worked as a flight nurse during Operation Desert Storm. She has worked in a number of healthcare systems in her years as a nurse. Most recently, she was employed at Harlan County Health System, a 12-bed critical access hospital in Alma, NE.
"I tend to get attached to my patients and I enjoy caring for people of every age throughout all stages of their lives," she said.
Foster has been a nurse since 1986 and received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from National American University and her Master's Degree from Chamberlain College of Nursing.
Foster has two grown children and three grandchildren. She moved to the area with her fiancé, Jeff. He is a retired police officer and hunts with greyhounds which he raises.
"I am excited to be here and look forward to meeting new people and caring for my community," she said.
