High School And Junior High Rodeo To Be Held At The McKenzie County Fairgrounds Beginning Of September

At the McKenzie County Fairgrounds on Friday, September 6 and Saturday, September 7, there will be a North Dakota High School Rodeo.

Starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 6, there will be a cow cutting in the indoor arena. At 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, the rodeo will start in the outdoor arena. Events will be in the standard event order: bareback, breakaway roping, tie-down roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling, saddle bronc, goat tying, team roping, pole bending, and bull riding. Bucking stock will be provided by Kling/Heading Bucking Horse and Eckroth Bulls.

On Saturday, September 14, and Sunday, September 15, there will also be a North Dakota Junior High Rodeo at the McKenzie County Fairgrounds. 

Starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, there will be Steer Riding Bareback, Girls Breakaway Roping, Boys Breakaway Roping, Tie Down, Roping, Barrel Racing, Chute Dogging, Steer Riding Saddle Bronc, Ribbon Roping, Girls Goat Tying, Boys Goat Tying, Team Roping, Pole Bending, and Bull Riding.

For the Junior High Rodeo, the judges will be Bruce Kautzman and Howard Larson, with the timers being Kathleen Kautzman and Trudy Riehl. Chas Ophus will be the announcer at the event and the stock contractor is Tyrell Fitzgerald (bulls). 

The Junior High Rodeo Division is based on high standards of sportsmanship, conduct, and academic excellence while developing a group of future rodeo contestants. It also allows participants the opportunity to compete at a national finals rodeo, while developing their skills at the sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade level.
