Down a lonely seeming road on the outskirts of Wolf Point are a set of grandstands seemingly abandoned behind a three pole gate and sign with three wagon wheels. Who would think in just a month's time it would be packed full of people. For once again on the second weekend of July, the town of Wolf Point, situated on the beautiful Missouri River will explode. The Rodeo Committee and Stadium Committee are banding together to bring the Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede to life. It will be held July 11, 12 and 13 this year at the Marvin Brookman Stadium, 6265 Rodeo Rd in Wolf Point, MT.
The Wild Horse Stampede actually started out as a competition in 1920 for a few local cowboys and Native Americans in roping and riding events. Now, years later, the 96th annual Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede is 3 days of official PRCA rodeo events, the Human Stampede, wild horse race and calcutta, the Stampede Roundup golf tournament, parade Friday and Saturday, art in the park and an open team roping event. There are things for the kids as well with a carnival and stick horse rodeo. Amanda Payne of One Armed Bandit & Co. will be performing every day and there will be PRCA RAM Rodeo and Cinch action starting at 7 p.m. every night. About 200 of the world's best PRCA cowboys and cowgirls consistently come to compete on Brookman rodeo stock every year in the Wild Horse Stampede. The WPRA National Small Rodeo of the Year committee along with many dedicated Stadium committee and community volunteers do their best to make this event renowned. During the rodeo alone, over a hundred volunteers are working in plain sight and behind the scenes to make this work. The theme this year is "Denim & Diamonds". Miss Rodeo Montana and Miss Teen Rodeo Montana will be showing up for the festivities as well.
The ticket booth is open from 12:30-6 p.m. Monday- Friday and can be contacted at 406-653-1770. General Admission Advance tickets are $l7, $20 at the gate. Buckaroo Advance tickets are $20, $22 at the gate. Kids 6 & under get in free to the rodeo.
