Alexander resident Donna Sims has opened The Wild Flour Café & Bakery in the former Country Café location at 718 Elk Street, Alexander. Sims is the former owner of Old School Meat Processing that was in operation from 2007-2012 in Alexander. Sims' daughters Alex and Emmalee also help at the restaurant.
The newly remolded location was purchased from Country Café owner Jennifer Morton. Morton was ready to retire when Sims stepped in to take ownership of the only café in Alexander. "For us it is a community place," said Sims. "Its so wonderful that people took their own free time to help with the remodel." The decision to take over the café was spur of the moment but the business was only closed for three weeks to complete the construction.
The remodel included the customer seating area, bathrooms and an expanded kitchen that now includes a bakery. They can now bake pies, breads, buns, caramel rolls, cookies and more. "I will take on any request," stated Sims.
There are other changes to the menu in addition to baked goods. Although the standard fare from the Country Café remains on the menu, Sims has added some healthier choices. There are now eight different salad options. Each salad can also be converted into wraps with four different tortilla shell choices.
Another big change is the expanded hours and supper menu. The Country Café closed at 2 p.m. daily but The Wild Flour Café & Bakery is now open Monday through Saturday 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. The new supper menu will also include new weekly meal specials for Friday and Saturday night.
You can contact the Wild Flour Café & Bakery at 701-828-3168 for to go orders. Their specials are also posted on their Facebook page daily.
