This Friday, November 23 at 6:30 p.m. the Watford City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their annual Parade of Lights parade in downtown Watford City. Due to the increase of floats and participants in the last few years, and for the safety of the public, the Watford City Police Department is announcing the change of the parade route.
This year floats and participants are to stage in the 300 block of 8th St NE (road on the east side of the hospital). The parade will then travel westbound down 4th Ave NE to Main Street N and then south on Main Street to Park Ave. Once the parade participants are all on Main Street, there will be a fireworks display for the public. Once the Fireworks display is completed, the parade will turn onto Park Ave East and everyone will disperse accordingly.
With this Parade, Main Street from 2nd Ave SW (Kum and Go) to 4th Ave NE (Carquest) and 4th Ave NE from Main Street to 12th St NE (Post Office/Airport Intersection) will be closed from 5:30 p.m. until approximately 8 p.m. The official detour will be Main Street to 6th Ave SE to 12th St NE (old truck by-pass). The other detour will go north on 5th St SW from 2nd Ave SW north to 4th Ave NW, then east to Main Street and then north on Main Street.
"We expect another large crowd this year for this annual event, and with that we have to ensure that the parade participants, spectators and the motoring public are safe. This road closure will ensure this," explained WCPD Public Information Officer Sgt Jeffrey Jensen.
"This annual event is a hallmark of our community and shining example of our community getting together and celebrating together."
Anyone who is interested in participating in the parade is encouraged to contact the Watford City Chamber of Commerce at 701-570-5084 or via email at [email protected].
