The MDHC Announces the Montana by Food "Pop-up" Exhibit

The MonDak Heritage Center announces the Montana by Food “pop-up” exhibit! The exhibit is on display now and runs through Saturday, December 22 at the MonDak Heritage Center, 120 3rd Ave SE, Sidney. Montana by Food is a traveling exhibit from the Montana Historical Society that the MonDak Heritage Center permanently acquired. This “pop-up” exhibit features a selection of photographs and recipes that highlight the role of food in Montana’s history. It also features the MonDak’s 1948 Model M John Deere tractor and a life-size photograph stand-in that makes the perfect photo op for family and friends!

Exploring the Montana by Food exhibit is the perfect way to get inspired for the A Taste of the Past: Gathering Montana’s Food Heritage event on Saturday, September 15 from 9:30am-4:30pm at Pella Lutheran Church in Sidney. Hosted by the Montana Historical Society and the Center for Western Lands and Peoples at Montana State University, the event is a community-based effort to collect and preserve the history of producing, preserving, cooking, and eating food in Richland and Roosevelt Counties. Bring any kind of document or artifact related to the culture of food in the area and historians and students from MSU and MHS will photograph it and make a digital copy. Throughout the day, listen to talks about the history of food in Montana and ways to preserve historical materials and share your own stories. Sponsored by the MonDak Heritage Center, National Endowment for the Humanities, Richland County Extension, Roosevelt County Extension, James E. Shanley Tribal Library, Fort Peck Community College, and Sidney-Richland County Library.

The pop-up exhibit and Taste of the Past event are FREE to the public! For more information contact MDHC at (406) 433-3500 or [email protected]. Also visit http://www.mhs.mt.gov/education/ConferencesWorkshops/TasteOfThePast for more info.
